Amnesty International fight for pride in Turkey

A day planned as a celebration of love, diversity and solidarity by university students was instead violently broken up by police using pepper spray, plastic bullets and tear gas.

Now, 18 students and an academic are facing baseless criminal charges for participating in this Pride Parade. Some of those facing charges say they were just bystanders. Their upcoming trial is on 12 March 2020.

These people, who simply stood in support of love as a human right, need our support and solidarity.

Show your love and support by urging Turkey’s Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül to immediately:

– Drop the charges against the 18 METU students and one academic.

– Launch an independent and impartial investigation into the excessive use of force by police on campus and ensure police officers found to have acted unlawfully are brought to justice.

Act, speak up, sign the petition!
