Auckland Rainbow Community Church brings together Christians at pride
Pride is about love, pride is about union, pride is for everyone. That’s what Auckland Rainbow Community Church is bringing to the Rainbow Parade this year. The LGBTQI+ church has been meeting in St Matthews for 46 years and this year has brought together several churches in Auckland to form a unified group.
“We’re profoundly aware that the message of the churches has been condemnatory to the community. Even now the statements of well-known church leaders are hurtful. We can even anticipate that at the Rainbow Parade there will be well-rehearsed Christian protestors with loud hailers. We utterly reject this homophobic response. We make our stand both on our understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and our lived experience,” says Mark Hangartner
“For the ARCC Board, participation this year is about letting people know there’s a place for them in the Church.
“We welcome bringing together all the groups who work to include rainbow community members, particularly the marginalised and discriminated against by other churches and organisations.”
